Modern Rustic Wine Bar

What a nice, relaxing wine bar in the heart of Redwood City! We immediately fell in love the moment we stepped into CRU.

Welcome

Of French origin and now used widely in France, Italy and in the New World, the word CRU means a grade or class of wine or refers to a specific vineyard site.

This wine bar has a modern chic industrial type of ambiance. Staff are very knowledgeable and provide exceptional service.

The menu selection is plentiful and we got to try a variety of wines and food served in tapas style.

It’s truly a place of relaxation after a busy day at work. Another bonus is they open at 8am and serve amazingly delicious artisan coffee!!

Your Neighborhood Taiwanese Style Food

Every time we walk into 5 Joy Restaurant, we feel like we are going over to our aunt’s house for dinner.

5 Joy Restaurant is a small restaurant in the Beach Park plaza strip mall bordering the San Francisco Bay in Foster City, just south of the Highway 92 San Mateo Bridge.

They serve Taiwanese style Chinese food along with some Shanghainese.

Do not let this seemingly unremarkable, noisy restaurant fool you. It is a popular get together for family and friends where people exude joy and embrace the culture. If you are hoping to have a romantic date here, be prepared to turn your date off with deep fried Stinky tofu.  This place serves up tons of it and wrecks of it when you walk in sometimes.

Our absolute favorites are:
Fried chive “ravioli” is like a Scallion pancake with chives, egg and rice noodles stuffed inside. Served very hot out of the fryer. Yum!

Scallion Pancake is super-hot and full of scallions.  Crispy crust and subtle flavor made it good.

Dry Fried String Beans -Simple, fresh and good veggies. Not too greasy and just enough flavorings.

And much more! It’s delicious food which guarantees ultimate comfort!

Well Deserved Michelin Star

As evidenced by all those Teslas, Mercedes and BMWs parked out front, this is a posh spot for fine-dining and people watching in the Rosewood Sand Hill hotel. It’s a place where it draws a crowd of local techies, VCs and startup peeps.

The grand open kitchen exhibits chefs ambition and pure talent with the magical cuisines they put together. Each dish is contemporary, thoughtfully composed with unexpected ingredients.
Wood Grilled Monterey Bay Squid was oh so tender, and the roe adds an extra layer of sensible luxury.

Yukon Gold Potato Gnocchi was bursting with flavors and the pistachio and truffle create a surprising texture.

Oak Grilled Dry Aged Ribeye was beyond approachable and satisfying.

Kung Fu Tea Chocolate was insanely creative and challenges you to step out of your comfort zone in a very good way.

Wine selection was beyond imagination as it is designed to court those where having a budget is not an option.

Wasabi Flowers & Green Apple Sorbet - Salt & Straw

REAL WASABI! Most of the wasabi you've probably had in your life is green colored horseradish, but this here is the real deal. Frog Eyes Farm grows wasabi on the Oregon Coast and we are so excited to get to use it in this eye popping flavor.

Cave Like Dining Experience in Redwood City

When we walked in Mandaloun, we felt like we entered an exotic European cave where our experience will be unforgettable.

It’s at a great location where we completely enjoyed delicious aromatic foods with flavors that are rich and bold, yet light and distinct. We felt like we were experiencing France, Italy, Greece and many other food loving regions of the Southern Mediterranean Coast all at the same time.

The best part was the service was excellent and the staff were attentive. We even got to meet the owner who is exceptionally passionate about what the restaurant has to offer.

Dancing...Not with the Stars

So we decided to take up some dancing lessons, specifically hip hop...we were hoping with the new moves learned, we can show off at clubs.

We signed up at CY Dance Studio in Belmont and the place was large, bright and nice speaker where sound projects well. CY Dance Works Studio | LIfe is a Dance, from one stage to the next... These dancers make it look so easy....it's not....it requires dedication, practice, memorization and repetition. Although we can't be on Dancing with the Stars yet, but we are hopeful one day we will make it!!!

Old Elevator Repair Shop Converted to the Coolest Dining Place

Our first impression before we even enter Oola…..WOW WOW WOW!!!!!!
Oola is a former elevator repair shop converted to a super cool restaurant at SOMA.
A two-story metal and glass door swings out to reveal a row of nine white leather drum-like stools in front of a bar topped with reclaimed wood.

A daring mix of high design and industrial grit, including rough brick walls. It's a style that has been raised to a high art in Europe

Décor is a perfect balance of cool and warm.

We started with grilled octopus with popcorn, paprika and chili oil, which was tender and moist.

For entrée, we tried baby back short ribs with soy ginger glaze and red cabbage apple slaw.

We also had Ora King Salmon w/ ratatouille, spinach, tapenade and herb mouse.

Food is delicious, unassuming and yet satisfying.
